In the Sultanate of Oman, the Oman Botanic Garden is currently in the stage of detailed design. Focussing exclusively on native plants, the Oman Botanic Garden is unique and seeks to become a world class facility for the conservation of Arabia’s plants as well as becoming a centre for learning and an iconic tourist destination.

The objectives of the garden include

The display of plants in open-air habitats representing the major lowland habitats.

The display of plants in two very special enclosures representing the habitats of the  highest mountains in northern Oman and the monsoon mountains of southern Oman.

The display of the place of plants in medicine and agriculture.

The exhibition of crafts associated with plants by means of a ‘living’ craft area.

The promotion of environmental education and awareness of Oman’s unique flora.

To house seed banks, nurseries, collections and research facilities for the conservation and study of the plant species of Oman and associated cultural traditions.

To support initiatives for conservation and research of a regional flora that is poorly represented in botanic gardens worldwide.

To serve as a model for sustainability.

To become a destination that will attract local and international visitors through the provision of leisure, event and resort facilities.
